JAMES MILLER, CJE, is the chair of the Communications/Media Arts department. He graduated from the inaugural CMA class at Manual in 1989 and went on to earn a B.A. in Communications from the University of Memphis and an M.A.T. from the University of Louisville. He teaches Journalism 1 (Intro to Mass Communication), Journalism 2 (Journalistic Writing), and Broadcast Journalism 1 and 2, which produce the weekly morning news series, Manual AM. Mr. Miller’s experience includes working for WHAS-11 and the Courier-Journal.
ELIZABETH PALMER, CJE, studied journalism at the University of Georgia and the University of Louisville, then went on to work for Ziff-Davis Media and freelance for local publications as a designer and writer. She earned an M.A.T. from the University of Louisville and earned post-graduate credit at the Reynolds High School Journalism Institute at the University of Texas in Austin. She teaches Photojournalism, Desktop Publishing, Multimedia (which produces manualredeye.com), and advises the yearbook (The Crimson). In 2009, Ms. Palmer won the James L. Highland Media Adviser of the Year Award, presented by the WKU School of Journalism and the Kentucky High School Media Institute. Other awards include the Rising Star Award from the Journalism Education Association (JEA) and the Jefferson County Teachers Association Schoolhouse Award. She currently serves as the JEA Kentucky State Director.
AMY RITCHIE has 13 years of teaching experience in Jefferson County. She holds her teaching certification in English and Dramatic Arts, with a Master’s Degree from the University of Louisville. Ms. Ritchie has taken post-graduate classes at the University of Cambridge in England, and is a fellow of the Louisville Writing Project. Even still, she is working on obtaining additional degrees in the future because she loves to learn! For these reasons Ms. Ritchie is the perfect adviser for the Crimson Record newspaper, having attended the JEA Adviser’s Institute in Washington, D.C., and was just awarded a fellowship at the Reynolds Institute at the University of Texas at Austin. She plans on winning lots of awards for the newspaper, and will make duPont Manual proud!
CLINT VAUGHT teaches Oral Communication and Debate. A Kentuckiana native, Mr. Vaught holds his Theatre Arts & Speech degrees from Transylvania University (BA), and the University of Louisville (MA). He has appeared locally as an actor with Actors Theatre, Derby Dinner Playhouse, Music Theatre Louisville, and Ky Shakespeare Festival. He has performed in dozens of commercial and industrial video projects, for KFC, CSX Rail, Southwest Airlines, Ford Motor Co., General Electric, Educational Testing Services, Humana, and others. Clint narrated the Military Channel’s award-winning 13 episode series, “That Was ‘Nam”, and portrayed featured or principal roles in the feature films Assisted Living, Forbidden County, Paper Cut, Hundred Proof, My True Self, and Nothing Without You.
